Water Quality Managment
The purpose of the Water Quality Management Department is:
"To manage the quality of the country's water resources."
The Department is made up of 2 Divisions:
- Water Quality Management Division, with 2 Sections responsible for all field operations and water quality data/modelling, and
- Environmental Laboratories Division, with 2 Sections responsible for quality assurance and laboratory operations.
The workplan of the Department is guided by the National Water Quality Management Strategy (2006), and specifically the 10 strategic targets:

Water quality regulations, standards and guidelines: A consistent and appropriate enabling environment for water quality management including updated regulations, aemmissions standards and guidelines

Water quality insitutional framework: A strengthened insitutional framework for Water Quality Management with cross-sectoral cooperation, selected funcsions carried out at decentrali levels and consistenstakeholder participation

Water quality data and information management tools: Water Quality Management based on use of Management Tools, which include monitoring and data exchange systems, licensing or abstractions and wastewater discharges, economic incentives, modeling of water quality and quantity in water bodies and water quality

Water quality assessments and plans – catchment-based: Water Quality Management based on Catchment Management Plans including classification and priotization of water bodies

Water quality monitoring – ambient: Water Quality Management based on Knowledge of Ambient Water Quality and trends from a National network of stations

Water quality monitoring – operational: Water Quality Management based on Operational Monitoring for assuring efficiency and quality of water supply and wastewater systems

Water quality laboratories: Water Quality Management based on adequate laboratory analytical capacity at central, regional and local levels designed to cover water quality information needs

Water quality emergency strategies and plans: Water Quality Management includes emergency plans and strategies

Administration and management: Water Quality Management based on sustainable funding

Transboundary water quality management: Water Quality Management based on transboundary agreements and practices
