Ministry of Water and Environment Hosts a Delegation from Boku University Rectorate

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Water and Environment; Dr. Alfred Okot Okidi hosted a delegation from BOKU University Rectorate at the Ministry of Water and Environment Headquarters in Luzira where they met the Senior Management Team of the Ministry and Alumni of the BOKU/IPGL program and held discussions on potential areas for further collaboration.

The 7-member delegation led by Prof. Dr. Eva Schulev -Steindl the Vice Chancellor, BOKU University is visiting partners in Uganda.

The objectives of the visit are to:

1. Monitor the progress of ongoing BOKU University projects implemented in Uganda in collaboration with Ugandan partners.

2. Engage partners and key stakeholders to explore potential areas for future collaboration in research and science.

3. Enhance the visibility of the ‘Sustainable Water Quality Management Supporting Uganda’s Development Ambitions ’ (SWAQ-Uganda) Project and the Uganda partnership among senior government officials, academic institutions, and stakeholders.

4. Disseminate some SWAQ -Uganda Project outputs by BOKU University to MWE and other stakeholders and provide update on the pending activities.

Prior to visiting the H/Qs, the delegation was hosted in Entebbe at the Water Resources Institute and inspected the National Water Quality Reference Laboratory where they were informed about the progress of the SWAQ-Uganda project.

With funding from the Austrian Development Agency, the Ministry of Water and Environment in partnership with the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences - Vienna (BOKU) are implementing a project titled: “Sustainable Water Quality Management Supporting Uganda’s Development Ambitions (SWAQ-Uganda) that commenced on 1st November, 2021 and ends on 30th October, 2026.

The Project objective is to support Uganda’s development agenda by addressing the challenge of water resources pollution.
