Kampala, 5 November 2026 – The Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, Her Excellency Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, has officially launched the Uganda Climate Investment Platform at Kampala Marriott Hotel under the theme, “Financing Uganda’s Green Future: From Commitment to Impact.”
The Uganda Climate Investment Platform is a strategic enabling mechanism designed to translate Uganda’s climate, nature and development priorities into bankable projects capable of attracting both domestic and international investment. It seeks to bridge the gap between climate commitments and actual financing by supporting the development of investment-ready projects that deliver measurable environmental, economic and social benefits.
The Platform will facilitate the development of pipelines of climate-resilient projects across key areas, including agro-industrial development, tourism, science, technology, information and communication technology (ICT), and innovation. It will also strengthen the capacity of institutions to mobilise public and private capital through innovative financing mechanisms such as blended finance, green bonds, carbon markets and other sustainable investment instruments.
The Platform will prioritise four strategic sectors: Nature, Energy, Agriculture and Tourism. Under Nature, it will promote investments in biodiversity conservation, forestry, wetlands and natural capital. In the Energy sector, it will support the transition to clean energy and the expansion of renewable energy. Its Agriculture focus will target climate-resilient food systems and agro-processing value chains, while the Tourism component will promote sustainable ecotourism and green infrastructure.
Institutionally, the Platform is anchored in the Office of the Prime Minister, providing high-level political leadership and coordination across its three co-chair institutions. The Ministry of Water and Environment, through the Climate Change and Carbon Trade Department, works alongside the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, through its Climate Finance Unit, and the National Planning Authority. These institutions jointly provide the technical coordination and secretariat functions necessary to advance the Platform's mandate.
The platform is supported by strategic development partners, including the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) Partnership, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, the Embassy of Denmark, the Global Capacity Building Coalition and the Country Platforms Hub.
The launch brought together high-level government officials, development partners and key stakeholders, including the Minister of Water and Environment, the Minister of State for Environment, the Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development (Microfinance), ambassadors, high commissioners and heads of diplomatic missions, Members of Parliament, development partner agencies, international organisations, representatives of Ministries, Departments and Agencies, local government leaders, financial institutions, civil society, academia, faith-based organisations and the media.
The launch marks an important milestone in Uganda's efforts to strengthen climate finance mobilisation, attract sustainable investments and accelerate the implementation of climate-resilient development priorities. Through the Platform, Uganda aims to create stronger partnerships between government, development partners and the private sector to unlock financing that supports environmental sustainability, economic transformation and improved livelihoods.
